Spaberry Portable Hot Tub lets you relax anywhere

Spaberry Portable Hot Tub lets you relax anywhere

There are few things more relaxing than a hot tub. But most of them are just so stationary. What if you want to move it from the porch to the yard? Then you need a portable hot tub, such as the Spaberry.

The Spaberry just needs a 110V outlet and some water. Fill it up with 125 gallons, heat it up, and you and a friend are all set for a soak. It comes loaded with jets, lights and drink holders, allowing for the perfect romantic evening. Just remember to move it back when you’re done.

'Laptop Burka' may be the most useless product ever

'Laptop Burka' may be the most useless product ever

The questionably-named Laptop Burka is essentially a sheet you drape over you and your laptop when outdoors to provide privacy and a glare shield. Yes, the makers of this $36 sheet expect you to sit in public with it over you.

If you’re really worried about glare and privacy, here’s a solution: your house. Just stay inside. Sitting on a park bench with a sheet over you is a good way for a hobo to get into a fight with you over territories, as he’ll mistake you for one of his own. Also, you’ll look like a complete jackass.

Airfonix sends 24-bit audio wirelessly to any speakers

Airfonix sends 24-bit audio wirelessly to any speakers

How, exactly, do you connect outdoor speakers to your stereo system? If you’re a DJ, how do wire speakers to your console? If you’ve got a home theater system and a picky spouse, how do you wire your rear speakers?

Airfonix, which specializes in wireless audio connectivity, will have an audiophile solution for your remote speaker dilemma in January with its AFX-19IP001 (who comes up with these ridiculous model numbers?). It’s a compact USB hub/iPod dock that transmits frequency hopping 24-bit uncompressed audio to its receiver modules connected to standard speakers. This wireless hub will run you around $300 plus receiver modules, probably cheaper and a lot easier than long high-gauge speaker runs.

Nexus Core makes playing in the yard a bit more surreal

Nexus Core makes playing in the yard a bit more surreal

Sure, you could buy your kid a boring old play set, one with swings and a slide. It’ll probably be made of wood and will look just like the play sets in everyone else’s backyards. Or, you could buy the crazy-looking Nexus Core.

These play set feature climbing poles, climbers, perches, nets, climbing wall and banister rails in a multitude of colors and materials, put together to look like something dropped out of a passing alien spacecraft. Does that make it more fun? Maybe. But it definitely makes it more expensive.

Umbrella Shoulder Holder is like having a third arm

Umbrella Shoulder Holder is like having a third arm

When it rains, you’re really down to one hand when you whip out your umbrella. Then you’re left trying to juggle any number of things: cellphone, briefcase, slice of pizza, keys to your battlesuit.

In Japan, however, there’s another way. The Umbrella Shoulder Holder is a snake-like tube you can wrap around your arm, with a hole for you to stick your umbrella into. (We’re not sure, but it’d be interesting to see how it deals with J-shaped handles.) After that, just secure it to your body and — bam! — no need to hold that umbrella.

Amazon Japan has ‘em for around $26 (not including the cost to import).

Digital BBQ Tongs, the meat burner's friend

Digital BBQ Tongs, the meat burner's friend

Now you can associate a number with how badly you’ve burned that $20 steak. These Digital BBQ Tongs pierce the meat, and in 5 seconds give you an accurate reading on its backlit LCD display of the interior temperature of that hunk o’ animal flesh.

This $40 thermometer aims to please, also including an attached LED flashlight for those late-night grilling sessions. It has presets for divining that ideal temperature within seven different kinds of meat, and then you can set one custom preset temperature.

There’s even a raucus alarm that tells you when the meat is done. Great. You can go through all this trouble with gadget assist, or you can just learn how to grill by rough estimation, slightly risky at first, but with experience pays off with uncanny accuracy.

HotCans, for a self-heated meal on the run

HotCans, for a self-heated meal on the run

There’s still a few weeks of summer left, so it’s not too late to go camping with these HotCans, self-heating containers that automagically heat up a hot dinner on the trail. Just place the can on its uncanny red lid, pop the top, and 12 minutes later you have yourself some steamy beef casserole, sausages and beans (which we affectionately call beans ‘n’ franks here in the States), or vegetable chili.

We dig things that heat themselves up with that super-cool exothermic reaction, such as those self-heating pads that effectively soothe an aching runner’s knees. While the culinary choices within these HotCans leave something to be desired, maybe this is the beginning of a whole new era of stove-less cooking. We’d like to see the containers available by themselves, so we could put our own concoctions inside.

For now, you’ll have to pay $8 for the privilege of eating what might be considered prison food. Yeah, well, who said going back to nature was going to be easy?

Ridiculous Spaceball Trampoline hailed as 'best exercise for space travel' by astronaut

Ridiculous Spaceball Trampoline hailed as 'best exercise for space travel' by astronaut

Want to be an astronaut? Good news! Apparently all it takes to get the best conditioning possible is being able to bounce around on a trampoline and get beaned by the occasional ball. That’s because Spaceball is — according to Scott Carpenter, one of NASA’s Mercury Seven astronauts — “the best conditioning exercise for space travel.”

As for the game itself, it’s a little confusing to figure out — or to figure out which part is fun, at least. You bounce around in your compartment while trying to toss the ball through a little tunnel in the middle and get it by your opponent. Spaceball supports two players under 200 pounds each, and takes up an area of your yard that’s 14′ by 8½’.

It’s all yours for only $700, or quite a few space bucks for you astronauts-in-Spaceball-training.
