StressWatch, the 21st-century Mood Ring?

StressWatch, the 21st-century Mood Ring?

Don’t wear your heart on your sleeve, wear it on your wrist with the StressWatch. This attractive design concept gathers heart rate and body temperature data and then interprets them as levels of stress on its multicolored screen. It’s like wearing a lie detector on your wrist.

The black bar graph at the bottom of the watch is the stress line, and if the colors on the watch face are cool greens and blues, you’re pretty laid back. If they turn into hot pink, red or orange, look out.

Why would you want to publicly display stress levels? The idea is not to be a stress exhibitionist, but to remind you to slow down your breathing and use visual biofeedback to calm yourself down. Like most other stress-relieving potions, elixers and devices, this could be pure woo-woo hooey. Nice watch, though. More pics:

Nexus Core makes playing in the yard a bit more surreal

Nexus Core makes playing in the yard a bit more surreal

Sure, you could buy your kid a boring old play set, one with swings and a slide. It’ll probably be made of wood and will look just like the play sets in everyone else’s backyards. Or, you could buy the crazy-looking Nexus Core.

These play set feature climbing poles, climbers, perches, nets, climbing wall and banister rails in a multitude of colors and materials, put together to look like something dropped out of a passing alien spacecraft. Does that make it more fun? Maybe. But it definitely makes it more expensive.

On Foot watch: not made for timing the pizza delivery guy

On Foot watch: not made for timing the pizza delivery guy

Something tells me that cult timepiece designer Mr Jones was watching the Athletics from Berlin last month, as his latest offering can only be a homage to one man: Usain Bolt. Despite its name, the On Foot watch, with its Jah Rastafari colors, is to be worn on the wrist.

The face is decorated with the world record times of various distances: the outer circle shows the 100, 200 and 400 meter records — all raced in under a minute; the middle circle shows the races completed within an hour; and the inner circle endurance titles.

Only a ton of these watches have been made, and they cost $179 each. I hope Mr Jones sent one to Jamaica.

Olympus E-600 DSLR brings out your inner Monet

Olympus E-600 DSLR brings out your inner Monet

Ready to take the leap from point-and-shoot to full-fledged DSLR? You could do worse than the Olympus E-600, an entry-level model that includes a few art filters to add some flavor to your 12.1-megapixel pics. The Soft Focus filter is self-explanatory, plus you get Pop Art, which enhances colors for “high-impact” images, and Pin Hole, said to add a nostalgic look with a darkened vignette. Sounds like something that’ll impress that pretty lady in your art history class.

It’s also nice to have that 2.7-inch swiveling Live View LCD. Paired with a 14-42mm f3.5/5.6 lens, the E-600 goes for the easy-to-remember sum of $600. Is should be hitting stores this November.

Elegant QCLOCKTWO shows you the time in words

Elegant QCLOCKTWO shows you the time in words

After we’ve tossed all those TokyoFlash mystery time-telling devices in the trash, we might just migrate back to having the time told to us in words, displayed in five-minute intervals. Sometimes that’s close enough.

This QCLOCKTWO is not a brand-new idea — we’ve seen similar timepieces and screensavers before — but this painted acrylic or stainless steel clock by Biegert & Funk is downright funky and stylish.

As usual, all this elegant Eurostyle and grace doesn’t come cheap, setting you back $1565. For that steep price, at least you’d think they’d throw in a few of the $136 interchangeable faceplates. If QCLOCKTWO’s price is too steep, just go to the iPhone App Store and get Biegert & Funk’s QCLOCKTWO app (iTunes link) that works just like it for $0.99.

Here are more pics of the various colors and finishes, and a video of QCLOCKTWO, but you’d better brush up on your German:
